The Archaeology Experience was designed to provide children with an exciting and practical vehicle for learning in the Invaders and Settlers study unit. Children undertake a themed week of archaeology events including visual literacy, creative thinking and classroom visits. The central activity in the week is the mock archaeological dig, where children undertake a full archaeological excavation with a full range of ICT resources available to examine and identify their finds. The week is an exhilarating experience for the children and their enthusiasm is clearly demonstrated in their heightened understanding of Roman Britain and high quality written work.

Who is it for?

How was it developed?
The Archaeology week was developed by all the Year 3 teachers across the Zone at a series of creativity meetings, led by the AST for Teaching and Learning. The project is in its third year of development.
What resources are available?
A full resource pack is available to support all the activities that contribute to make the themed week. This includes Roman databases, writing resources, video messages, image banks and visual literacy films. All resources are supplied on CD ROM.
