Digital Film Making across the Curriculum

What is the Activity?
'Use film as a means for children to celebrate their creativity and abilities.' Film making training is available in both live action and animated formats. Children are encouraged to plan, scrip, shoot and edit their films independently and are encouraged to link their film making to other areas of the curriculum. All formats and styles can be catered for including Digital Blue, Windows Movie Maker, animations, live action and digital narratives.

Who is it for?
Film making training is appropriate to all teachers from Foundation to Key Stage 2 and possibly Key Stage 3. This is a flexible approach and can be applied to all areas of the curriculum, for example, successful film work has been undertaken in the Zone on the themes of MFL, PHSE, History, Literacy and many more.

How was it developed?
The AST for Teaching and Learning has developed expertise in film production working with schools on films for the Roscars and through working on BFI projects with the Local Authority.

What resources are available?
Guides are available for both Digital Blue and Movie Maker work, however the basis of the training is more practical in its nature.

What are the training implications?
Training can be undertaken in half day, full day or twilight formats to suit the needs and expertise of particular schools. Training across larger groups at cluster level is also available.
